The perfect fit for Georgy Collection

Her garments have been worn by international superstar Jennifer Lopez and internet sensation Tammy Hembrow, giving Georgina Tsiavlis of Georgy Collection the perfect kick start for her small family business.

“J-Lo was a surreal moment,” Georgina says. “Paul woke me up in the middle of the night and I just couldn’t sleep afterwards, I was so excited!”

That was the moment they’d been waiting for.

Launching early 2017, Georgy Collection was the brain child of Georgina and her husband, Paul, who had worked in the accessories industry with his family for many years.

They were looking to explore something a new outlet, and Georgina’s seamstress background seemed like the perfect opportunity to branch out.

“It’s a small family business for now and we all do a little bit of everything,” says Georgina in her Torrensville studio.

Here, she showcases her current and upcoming collections, including True Romance and the soon-to-released range, which features a variety of versatile pieces designed to be mixed and matched.

“I design everything here in Adelaide, and then I meet with a pattern maker in China to discuss finer details and then make samples and eventually the finished product in our factory, which is also used by some of the country’s biggest brands,” she says.

“Quality is so important to me – we prioritise it with the fit when we’re sourcing fabrics and making the patterns.”

Paul points out that it’s the quality in every part of the process that helps ensure the perfect fit for every Georgy woman.

“One of the most common comments we get about Georgina’s garments is that the fit is amazing, and how comfortable they feel on, and that’s not normally something you get told about fashion, especially not dresses,” he says.

They’ve even had comments back from J-Lo’s stylist saying it was like the outfits were made for the star and that she adores how the dresses feel on.

If that’s not a dream compliment for any designer, we don’t know what is.

And now, the brand is stocked in over 30 stores across Australia, Kuwait and in the United States, as well as being available via their online store.

As for the 2018 Adelaide Fashion Festival presented by Mercedes-Benz Adelaide & Unley, Georgina is beyond excited to be a part of it.

“I was so excited when we first met Chris [Kontos, Creative Director of AFF] and it was his second visit to the warehouse that he invited us to be a part of AFF,” she says.

“I’m very grateful that he saw the quality and the potential and that he wants to help give us the exposure to grow.
